In person (face-to-face, including virtually), I introduce myself by name as Mandi Joseph; however, online, I introduce myself by name as SR (Mandi) Joseph. Childhood to Adulthood – How was your transition from childhood to adulthood and what are the bad and good things you remember?

My transition from childhood to adulthood was smooth; as far back as I can remember, education was a focus for me.  At the age of 3 or 4 my mom enrolled me in a Dr. Seuss book club with monthly book deliveries in the mail and this contributed to my love of learning.  From that point forward, education became an integral part of my life; during every summer of high school, I was afforded an amazing opportunity to participate in a Math and Science program at an elite boarding school in New England, after which graduating from college became a pivotal part of my transition into adulthood.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

My biggest struggle in my early adult years was overcoming being a really shy person.  People tended to overlook or underestimate me because I was always very quiet. After law school and a subsequent role in politics, I learned how to present more as an extrovert, although it was oftentimes exhausting.  Today, no one believes that I was ever a shy person.

What do people usually not know about you?

Depending on the audience, people generally will not know that I love to dance and am a really good dancer.  People really close to me will know that dancing is my go-to activity for fun moments.

What sets you apart from your competitors in the industry and in life?

From a work perspective, my differentiator is that I am a hard worker, especially when I am very passionate about something – it’ll take having superpowers to outwork me.  I’d also like to believe that I have superior analytical skills with a unique ability to integrate creativity while maintaining a rational and sound basis when reaching conclusions. From a life perspective, I’m empathetic (a quality I’ve strengthened over the years) and that allows me to connect with people that could be viewed as unlikely connections from the outside looking in.  Achiever, Learner, Analytical, Intellection and Relator just so happen to be my Top 5 strengths based on a Gallup Strengths Finder assessment.

What are your upcoming major events?

I’m looking forward to a speaking engagement in the Spring where I’ll have an opportunity to speak on fostering Inclusion and Belonging using data-driven methods.  Personally, I’m looking forward to my son’s Spring basketball games.

What are your food preferences and physical attributes?

My family is Creole so I love Creole cuisine like gumbo, couvillion, etouffe, boudin and the likes.  I also love Mexican food (Tex-Mex preferably as I grew up in Texas).

Your love life, relationships and family?

Family over everything is one of my personal guiding principles.

What expert advice would you like to give?

If you prepare and pray for what you want in life, then you should pursue it.  Don’t allow fear to hijack your faith when you’ve prepared to pursue your dreams.
