Spread the love

Gordana Micic was recently interviewed by TheCelebrity.Online and below is the Q&A session we had with her.

How do you introduce yourself?

Gordana Micic: The first thing you will notice about me, people have often told me is the invisible thing, my energy. Full of life, joy, loving, caring, curious, relentless and a fun human being. I have led a beautiful fulfiling life and have a portfolio career ranging from very technical aspects in engineering and science right through to creative endeavours producing shows, designing, writing and championing the idea of living your life to the full potential.

Having been a performer since childhood as a dancer, I am comfortable being in the spotlight as a Public Figure, Comedienne, Motivational Speaker, Scientist, Engineer, Managing Consultant, Business Owner, Coach, Change Guru, Host, Writer, Model, Actor, Competitive Dancer, Pilot, Isumataq, Mother and Founder of Groovie Comedy. Those are indeed professions to me and important not to label myself with just one label because there is so much variety in my offering.

How was the transition from your childhood into adulthood/teenage and what good and bad things do you remember?

Gordana Micic: From a very young age, I remember being sporty and active both, physically doing a wide range of sports and physical challenges and mentally, writing about technical and complex subjects in her profession as a scientist, engineer and consultant. I am dedicated to being a champion for STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) and bringing more women into what have traditionally been more preferred subjects by boys and more diversity as a whole.

My curiosity and natural go-getter attitude have meant that I got promoted through the hierarchies in my jobs quickly, and my natural inclination to problem solving and thinking deeply about a wide range of subjects makes my creative work as a producer even more exciting and fun. My parents say “As a child Gordie played with cars, tractors, electrics and designed electric circuits. As a teenager, she played with cars, tractors, boats and designed electric circuits. As a student, she played with planes and designed electric, telecoms and radio circuits for planes. As a young professional engineer, Gordie played with colliding particles in the particle detector in CERN, European Centre for Nuclear Research in Geneva, Switzerland and design electronic circuits to enable the measurement and discovery of new particles in nuclear and particle physics. Now Gordie plays with every equipment there is and designs fun nights of entertainment in her comedy club, Groovie Comedy in West End of London, UK. And she still forgets to brush her hair before she runs out!”

I am a strong believe that everything happens for a reason and, hence, in the long run it is not about good or bad things but how one reacts to everything that life serves. Even when I injured my leg skiing and at dance practice, I saw this as useful time to slow down on the physical aspects of my engagements and dedicate to creative writing producing an amazing 1 hour solo show titled Balkan Girl that tells a story of a young girl’s understanding of the world and meaning of life, reframing some of the past dramatic experiences.

Every stage of life is accompanied with a dance and musical number, highly uplifting and full of wittiness, joy and laughter. The show has often been called “an educational blast” because I incorporate science, corporate business knowledge, life experiences, parenting, dance and body movement and plenty of jokes to enable people to have happy juices flowing in their brains which is when they learn and remember the most. This is the strategy that I have been using in motivational and after dinner speeches and what a treat it has been too.

Struggle – What hardships have you faced during your life?

Gordana Micic: Quite a few but I take hardships in my stride and somehow as if by miracle, manage to thrive under pressure. I think it is my attitude that whatever is a threat in life is also an opportunity to change and do better, otherwise you’d never make the first move if it wasn’t for that external force so I am grateful for having had it tough.

Some of the most challenging aspects have included living and working in seven different countries in the world, studying and working in 3 different languages (English, French & Serbo-Croat).

The hardest challenge was when I lost my husband to a tragic accident a few years ago and became a single parent to three boys having to juggle a high power and demanding job in a very competitive industry, living in one of the most expensive cities in the world and making sure that she remains resilient and strong for her sons. My life is not just a story of survival, having come from the Balkans when the war started with a cocktail of traumatic experiences that involve such situations but is a story of having the clarity, focus and determination to thrive and make everybody’s life one encounters that tiny bit better and heal own wounds at the same time as you go through life.

Even when loosing the love of my life, and perhaps even inspired by it, I do not let the fact that I am a mother to 3 young men distract me from my own dreams. I believe “happy mothers make happy sons” so despite being a fiercely devoted mum, I got out there, grabbed the mic and the business plan, taught myself how to reframe past experiences, be funny and joyful, run my business and shine the light for others and be their role model in picking themselves up and dusting themselves off and keep going.

What things people usually do not know about you?

Gordana Micic: One of the most significant is the fact that right now in across the world 12 people live because, during the Balkan war, I helped them and risked my own life to save a number of mixed families and help them emigrate abroad several times driving through gunfire. I found that blasting ‘Dancing With Myself’ song by Billy Idol, funnily enough, drowns the gun shots pretty well.

Another is that I meditate floating on a body of water. In a busy lives, the busier we are, better ways to rejuvenate and reenergize we ought to find, kind of like reset button. I can swim for hours having had synchronized swimming training and this is great exercise too.

Funny one is that I am called Lady G because I turned down a Lord when he proposed to me. Northerner. I’m sure we would have got on great as we both make eye contact with everyone around us and ask them how they are doing. But it was not my time to marry or settle, I wanted to go and live abroad so I went to Belgium and France.

What make you unique from your competitors in the industry and life?

Gordana Micic: When they made me, I think they must have misplaced or broken the mold. Simple. I am driven, determined and resilient having worked in many conditions that were not favorable to me as a woman or even as a human. Originally from Eastern European background who became a naturalized British citizen in 2000, having to study and work in two foreign languages at the highest levels (degree in Engineering from University College London, Grande Ecole de Telecommunication in France and Master in Business administration from Henley Business School) and, above all, I have learnt to be adaptable, flexible and to easily fit into several quite different societies, teams and different ways of working.

In short, I am fun to work with because I have had a lot of training and experience and challenges in different environments and that makes an artist very self aware and team and their environment aware too.

What are the major upcoming events and unforgettable moments that you want to inform our readers about?

I love innovation, quality and outdoorsy lifestyle so anything that is to do with that will be fabulous. Be it in technology where it will make our lives easier and more focused on the things that matter rather than performing routine tasks, fashion where we use sustainable, innovative processes, fabrics and allowing individuality with garments as well as following a fashion trend and finally outdoor activities of which I am a big fan having had active life up until now doing the daring sports, nature adventures and sometimes relying on tech innovation to keep me safe and alive whilst doing so.

I believe people are becoming more in tune with “having it all” and “things that matter most” and are more daring in terms of how they live, travel, spend their free time and enjoy life and I would be honored to be a part of that journey as an influencer, champion and model for any company, service and product.

What are your diet preference and physical measurements?

Gordana Micic: I eat healthy and exercise especially as a dancer and performer I have to stay in good shape. I am not a fussy eater but I do not eat after 6pm and I avoid fast food. I have been the same size for most of my life. I don’t even think about it much, measurements etc.

If I need to tone up, I exercise more, swim, dance, and do zumba which is the most beautiful way to keep fit as it’s kind of like exercise for the body, mind and mood too. I have modelled dancewear and find my hips are wider than regular dancers but I wear it in the most feminite way and have natural elegance to pull it off.

I fit size 10-12 UK depending on the brand and shoes 5 or 5.5 UK.

Bust: 40 inches, Chest 36 inches, Waist 31 inches, Hips 41 inches.
